Oman today_ Recently, a comprehensive plan has been unveiled to renovate Al Qurm Park and Beach with the aim of transforming these iconic areas into sustainable, accessible, and people-centered spaces. This initiative is part of a long-term vision for sustainable urban development in Muscat, with a special focus on harmonizing with nature and enhancing the quality of life.
The project is led by VMX Architects, based in Amsterdam, who are designing a multifunctional district that includes residential, commercial, and natural landscape areas.

Project phases include:
Redesigning the Al Qurm coastal pathway and eliminating vehicle traffic along the shoreline
Renovating Al Qurm Park and creating a sustainable pedestrian route that passes through the Harra forest habitat

Key features of the Al Qurm Beach plan:
Establishing a car-free zone along the coast
Direct connection of cafes and restaurants to the beachfront
Construction of observation towers, sports facilities, parking areas, and nature-integrated walking trails

Al Qurm Park will be upgraded with amenities such as cricket, tennis, basketball, and athletics fields, children’s and youth play areas, a boating lake, live performance spaces, shaded walkways, and botanical gardens.
The natural habitat of Al Qurm, home to one of the largest Harra forests in the region, will be preserved with minimal environmental intervention. Facilities will include bird-watching spots, eco-lodges, forest walking trails, and environmentally friendly water-based recreational activities.
With over 75,000 square meters of native plantings and 7.5 kilometers of walking paths, this project will transform Al Qurm into a major urban, environmental, and tourism hub in Muscat.
