Oman today_ MK2 Films studio recently announced that it has acquired the distribution rights to Jafar Panahi’s new film, Un Simple Accident. This film, selected to compete in the 78th Cannes Film Festival, is scheduled to premiere next week at the prestigious cinematic event.
Un Simple Accident was created in collaboration with the French production company Les Films Pelléas, known for producing the acclaimed Anatomy of a Fall. Post-production for the film was completed in France. The storyline begins with a minor accident that escalates into a series of tense and complex events.
Jafar Panahi, a filmmaker with a history of significant achievements at global festivals, has previously made his mark with works such as the documentary The Year of the Everlasting Storm, showcased in the Cannes 2021 Special Screenings section, and Three Faces, which earned him the Best Screenplay award at Cannes in 2018. Panahi’s notable films, including Taxi, Offside, and No Bears, have established him as a prominent figure in Iranian and international cinema.
In 2022, Panahi received the Special Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival for No Bears. Earlier, he won the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival in 2015 for Taxi and the Silver Bear in 2006 for Offside.
MK2 Films has also revealed that it has acquired six films participating in this year’s Cannes Festival, including Sentimental Value by Joachim Trier. However, Panahi’s attendance at the premiere of Un Simple Accident in Cannes remains uncertain.
