Oman today_ Wheat harvesting for the 2025 season has officially begun in Oman, with expectations of a strong and high-quality yield. This success is attributed to the expansion of agricultural lands, government technical and financial support, and collaboration with the private sector. Harvesting operations, which started in late March, will continue through April and May, covering various regions including North Sharqiyah, Buraimi, Dhahirah, Dakhliyah, and especially the Najd region in Dhofar, which has great potential for agricultural development due to its abundant water resources and vast farmland.
Additionally, under a memorandum of agreement with Oman Flour Mills, farmers can sell their wheat at a rate of 500 Omani riyals per ton, providing a strong incentive to boost production.
In the 2022-23 season, wheat production reached 7,119 tons, marking a 229% increase compared to the previous year. The area under wheat cultivation expanded by 160%, reaching 6,359 acres, while the number of active farmers in the sector grew by 22%. This upward trend reflects Oman’s commitment to achieving food security, reducing dependence on imports, and positioning wheat as a strategic crop in the country’s agricultural agenda.
