Oman today_ Mont Saint-Michel is a rocky island located in the northwest of France, in the Normandy region. Situated at the mouth of the Couesnon River, this island has a unique geographical position, connecting to the mainland during low tide and becoming an independent island during high tide.
Atop the island stands a historic abbey called Mont Saint-Michel, which dates back to the Middle Ages. Renowned for its Gothic architecture, the abbey is one of the cultural and historical symbols of France and attracts millions of tourists each year.
Mont Saint-Michel is famous for the dramatic and rapid tidal movements around it, where the surrounding waters can recede as far as 18 kilometers before returning. This natural phenomenon has historically made Mont Saint-Michel an impregnable fortress.
The island is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is recognized as one of France’s most important tourist attractions.
