Oman today_ The government of Oman has waived all fines accumulated by workers over the past seven years, including fees incurred during the COVID-19 period. Workers have until the end of July to regularize their work status by either renewing their licenses or terminating their services without penalties.
This decision allows employees to renew their work permits for the next two years. Employers are also given the option to terminate their employees’ services and provide them with return tickets to their home countries.
Currently, fines are imposed based on registrations rather than the number of workers. However, after three months, fines will be applied to workers whose salaries are not processed through the Wage Protection System (WPS).
In recent years, Oman’s Ministry of Labour has played a key role in preserving 50,000 to 60,000 jobs for Omanis. Additionally, the public sector hires approximately 12,000 to 16,000 individuals annually.
