Oman today_ The government of Oman has decided to improve and elevate taxi services. Eng. Khamis bin Mohammed al Shamakhi, Undersecretary for Transport, mentioned that the main goal is to ensure that all taxis, including those requested through apps, are equipped with meters. Currently, there are eight app-based taxi companies operating in Oman.
Harith al Maqbali, CEO of OTaxi, the first taxi app in Oman, stated that the company has grown significantly after the pandemic and now has over 5,000 drivers. The competition in the market has led to better services, reducing taxi wait times in Muscat to 3 to 5 minutes. Additionally, OTaxi plans to introduce more electric vehicles to reduce carbon emissions.
OTaxi has recently received investment from the super-app Yango, and it is expected that significant advancements in taxi and delivery services technology will take place in Oman over the next three years.
